Knitty Knitty Bo Biddy

So the time has changed, and by change I mean time change not really weather change, and it is time to stop being mad at knitting.  You may wonder how one gets mad at knitting. Well let me tell you how we broke up for a couple of months.

In January I decided to finally bite the bullet and knit a lace shawl with lace yarn.  I have been telling myself since 2008 that I was not experienced enough to handle lace yarn.  The fact that it was so fine of a yarn scared me and also size...whoa.  The lace shawl was Nancy Bush's Lily of the Valley Shawl.  So I cast on this bad boy and began working a few rows everyday.  No rush. My date was set to finish by summer so I can wear it to the convention.
The progress I made in the first 3 days was pretty obvious that the pattern was going to be delightful to look at.  It was pretty simple following the chart and learning about nupps.  By the beginning of the next month I had finished up the 4th or 5th repeat of the pattern.
Status beginning Feb.
Although I was taking a pottery class at the time I still made time for knitting.  Slowly the shawl was growing.
Status beginning April
In June I finally finished the body of the shawl and just had to finish off the border and block it.
Status beginning June
I was on schedule to finish....and then something happened.  As I was picking up the stitches for the boarder I realized that at some point I snagged the shawl.  I tried to fix it but there was no lifeline. There was just utter sadness.  If I believed in signs I would have created a million of scenarios which included 'you are never going to wear this on your wedding day.' Well its a good thing I wasn't getting married but I was just so sad that it didn't survive. I have yet to frog the shawl.  It just sits in my packers tin waiting ....just waiting.
So it is now November and I have decided that maybe its time.  No not time to start over.....that will take me a while longer to recover.  I have decided to stop being mad at knitting (myself) and pick up the needles.  Also I was on ravelry and realized I haven't knit anything besides a scarf and finishing up a few UFO's.

Bootcamp Day 8

Today was an emotional day. Good thing I had bootcamp to look forward too. It was another intense workout. We ran, no we jogged around the block carrying a big weighted ball. Then we ran stairs. Stairs are the hardest for me because going down scares me. Then we did a lot of work with tires. Oh and as always we ended with a 1:45 minute plank.
:-) anyone living in the Santa Maria area should give the bootcamp at Griffin Fitness a try. Just do it. Seriously worth it.

Bootcamp Day 7

Well more weights. I like lifting weights. I feel powerful. Today we used two sets of weights, 5 and 8 lbs. I ended up using 8lbs most of the time. It was a crazy workout but pushed through. At the end we did a 1:40 plank. Killer!

Bootcamp Day 6

So I was not feeling it. It could have been just tired from the crazy weekend or being lazy from being on vacation.
We did arm work with weights. I used 8 lbs cuz my sister used my 5s. We also did more ab work. Seriously pushed myself. There was this one move that was killer. It was a push-up variation. So you went down, paused, lay on the floor, then push yourself up. Let's just say moddy push-ups didn't even help me.

Bootcamp Day 5

Thursday was such a long time ago. All I remember thinking is how all the lunges and squats were going to make me sore. I signed up to do some roofing. Ladders that's it ladders.
On a side note I want to be an action actor. Look at these men. Still kicking butt.

Bootcamp Day 4

Today we did sprints, high knees and grapevine shuffles as a warm up. There were a few girls that were late so we had to keep going. Then after we did jumping moves. It's super hard but it helps me build endurance.
I think it is going pretty well. I would totally go for an AM class but this one is only a month long.

Bootcamp Day 3

We jogged around the block as a warmup. I believe we did 2 laps. The only thing was we had to stay in a line and pass this log overhead. Then we did workouts with tires. Guess who had the biggest tire. My shoulders and neck are kind of in a knot. It was a good workout although different from anything I've ever done.

Bootcamp Day 2

I was super sore from the day before. We did insanity type exercises which at first I was doing good but by the end I couldn't move. It's 3 days later and my muscles still ache. The last thing we did was a minute plank. Really challenged myself to hold it.
I couldn't run on Friday as I planned because I was so tired but got it in on Saturday.
I go again tomorrow so let's see what is in store for us.

Bootcamp Day 1

A friend of mine recently opened up a fitness studio. In support I went to his grand opening. Since I haven't had a car all I could do was check things out. However my sister wanted to start working out so we signed up for a month long bootcamp.

The first day the instructor was late so Russ, the owner had us start with a Tabata type workout. At first it was easy and by the 4th rep I was losing my strength. Then the Mayra showed up and we began bootcamp. Day 1 consisted of measurements. We took our weight and did a bunch of 1 minute exercises then ran stairs.

The next day I woke up and was feeling fine. However as the day went forth the sore spots started appearing.
I knew I had to go to class at the end if the day.

The instructor says we can modify things but I go all out... Until I can't. It is only a month long so I figure gotta put in the work. Stay tune for a post about day 2.

Sick and Tired

You know when you are overweight and you come to a point when you are sick and tired of being sick and tired.  Then you start working out and eat better and over time you are feeling amazing.

Well what if you are sick and tried of life? Seriously I don't think we were designed to sit behind a desk for 8 hours a day and then go home.  No I am not suicidal and going on a life diet.

I am what you would call a complainer.  I like things to go a certain way and if I don't get my way I complain. Sometimes I hear myself talk and I just want to punch myself.

So I am taking a timeout to figure out what my plan is.  Maybe I will drive myself insane by *blah blah blahing*

If I didn't care about incurring more debt I would just hop a plane to Ireland for two week and hang out on a cliff drinking and staring at the ocean. Roll down the hill, face plant in manure, and run in the cold water to wash it all off.

But in all seriousness I had a plan; and it turns out you can only control so much of the plan.  Maybe I am just having a midlife crisis....women get those too right....and yeah I don't think I will make it past 60.

Let's see what do they do..... they go and buy a red fast sports car, get divorced and find a 24 year old, dye their hair, and play golf.

Well for sure more blogging.  My doctor says I need to journal for my health.

How interesting I come home to read about this topic.
I don't believe I will have the chance again anytime soon. However it is a fun ride.

Being a fan of a sport can be a spot.  Or a way of life. Don't worry I am not that hardcore about being a Yankee Fan.
I blame Spot Collins for making Brooklyn a cool and exciting place to live.

If the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn then I'd be a Dodger fan.
Okay I have Dodger gear from friends since I am a California native.  If it is free I will wear it.....maybe
However you can ask my sister. I let her borrow my NY Yankee beanie and I probably looked like this picture asking for it back.

Xtreme Skateboarding

So I used to skateboard for fun. Nothing to crazy. I actually preferred a longboard.  However there is xtreme skateboarding. Try it at your own risk.

I do not know what happen to my post but here goes again.

Woodworking is not a hobby I have ever wanted to do but now it interreges me. It will be one of those things that I try once and move on.

I would be afraid of splinters.
The carving aspect reminds me of carving my clay pieces.

My sister once tried to learn to play the violin. I think it was a good hobby.....once she got better.
I tried it and well if I had made time I am sure I would have gotten better.

Yup good hobby.

Finding a hobby with a U was kind of difficult. I think because it wasn't something I was interested in.

I will take a trip to Hawaii just to see about this ukulele business. ^_^

Tokidoki is not really a hobby.  I have collected some items.  If money was abundant I would get Simone to fly over here to personalize my office, house and car.  It would be most awesome!

When I was little my grandmother taught me to sew on her sewing machine. In high school I took a sewing class and really enjoyed it.
I wish I made the time to do it more.  I love the sewing part but the cutting and fitting is the part that takes me a while.
Things I would like to make:

I know I can just buy but its more exciting when you make them.

I try.
Running is pretty easy once you start.  It's the starting that is the hardest for me.
I've done a 5k and 10k.
There are many more to attempt like a half or a marathon.

Yup I mostly do it because I like to eat.

One day I would like to make a quilt. People do it as a hobby and they make it seem so easy.  I look at it all in confusion.
However if I make one I want it to match my beach theme d├ęcor.
Or maybe one that I can give to a cat lover since I love cats but am allergic.

Not much to say about pottery except that I love my Potter's Wheel Throwing Class.  I am a bit allergic to the glazes but then again they are harsh chemicals.
My first cups!
My first glazing
Glazed cups

1st Pot with cover jar

It's a messy job.  But I've gotten better.

1st big item thrown.  Came out very nice.

Bowl assignment

Bowls getting bone dry.  (The bottom right did not survive my man handling)

Better cup

What I have done in my class so far.
I really have enjoyed checking off things on my bucket list or things to try before I get

I've tried origami and sometimes it works other times it does not. My sister is really good at it.

My Sister's Frog.
I one time had to make cranes one time for a work event.

"According to Japanese tradition, anyone with the patience and commitment to fold 1,000 paper cranes will be granted their most desired wish, because they have exhibited the cranes’ loyalty and recreated their beauty"

Well I don't think I made the entire 1,000 because my amazing sister helped me.  It was nice sister bonding time getting them all finished.

Needlework is a hobby I have long since put behind me.  Or rather it is hiding in my house somewhere. The only embroidery needlework item I have is a Baby Mickey and Friends cross stitch blanket I began back when I thought I would have kids.

I don't really remember what it looked like but found something that could have been it.
I guess I can't have kids til I finish this ha.
I learned this craft from my grandmother and mother. They would make borders on pillow cases and also they loved flowers.
Roses they loved roses. And you had to have the back lined up parallel or horizontal not crazy backs.
This post makes me want to pick up the hobby again.....maybe I will just pin some pictures and that will satisfy my needs.

Mopeds and Motorcycles

Taking up riding a moped or motorcycle can be a hobby.  You go out riding with friends.  Although if I were to get one. It would be have to be an orange one.  Or red.

Found on Pinterest From Flickr by Mario Traar
Hobby equals riding around, fixing, cleaning, and maintaining the bike. All with a smile.
